After successfully completing design and execution of their London home, MMKM were approached by their repeat clients to extend their established listed farm property in the heart on Berkshire.
Gaining listed building and planning permissions, the development looked to engage traditional building methods to complement the existing historic listed building fabric. A new timber frame structure helps to develop a dramatic interior and natural stone walling visual impact from the exterior.
Internally, the newly developed area provides a large central hall space with steel doors opening to the garden beyond, ideal for both Christmas gatherings and summer parties. New contemporary roof glazing set within the exposed timber frame ensures the development is clearly identifiable as a new addition. The new bedroom accommodation and accompanying ensuite bathrooms hide secret play areas for the property owners’ children up at high level in the eaves, accessible only from quirky sliding library style ladders.
Revisiting the property for a second time; MMKM developed an amazing barn space to become a much-needed entertaining room for extended family. The new games room is carefully divided with furniture placement to created zoned entertaining areas and the new Crittall infill glazing links the conversion back to the previous addition.
